Nature in Cities : An Essential Solutions to the Climate Crisis

Sharon Selvaggio  Pesticide Program Specialist of The Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation

In July 2022 the United Nations General Assembly recognized a clean, healthy and sustainable environment as a human right. Precipitated by the climate crisis and environmental degradation that together escalate threats to human health and biodiversity, this resolution implicitly acknowledges that human well-being depends upon a healthy environment and the ecosystem services nature provides.

To help these efforts, Xerces offers workshops that help volunteers gain the necessary skills, knowledge and confidence to run surveys independently. The Atlas projects are active in 10 states, and have helped advance our collective understanding of bumble bee distribution, population status, and ecology, while directly informing the recovery of rare species like the western bumble bee.
