You are cordially invited to attend the International Conference on Human Rights at the Local and Regional Levels 2021

Human Rights Go Local: What Works

9 February 2021, Graz, Austria

16:00 – 18:00 CET

The virtual Conference aims at supporting local level authorities with knowledge on state-of-the-art human rights research and assisting them with proposals on how to locally implement the international human rights agenda. For this, the basis is developed with all international participants of the Academy which takes place in the days before the Conference. Furthermore, the Conference marks the 20th anniversary of Graz (Austria) becoming Europe’s first Human Rights City and the official inauguration of the International Centre for the Promotion of Human Rights at the Local and Regional Levels under the auspices of UNESCO.

We invite you to join us for this high-level gathering! The registration to the conference is now open.

Dignitaries include the President of the Republic of Austria, Alexander Van der Bellen, the Austrian Minister for European and International Affairs, Alexander Schallenberg, the Governor of the province of Styria, Hermann Schützenhöfer, and the Rector of the University of Graz, Martin Polaschek.

A High-Level Panel Discussion on “Building Bridges between Local Governments and Science to Promote Human Rights” is chaired by Morten Kjaerum (Director Raoul Wallenberg Institute). It showcases the views and experiences of Michael O’Flaherty (Director EU Agency for Fundamental Rights), Nada Al-Nashif (Deputy High Commissioner for Human Rights), Gabriela Ramos (Assistant Director-General for Social and Human Sciences, UNESCO), Siegfried Nagl (Mayor of Graz) and Gerd Oberleitner (UNESCO Chair for Human Rights and Human Security).

The virtual conference is hosted on the platform Zoom. Interpretation in three languages (DE/EN/FR) is provided. Please visit our website for the programme and further up-to-date information.
