Peacebuilding and Inclusion in the Asia-Pacific Cities
Background
Established in 2006, APCAD(Asia-Pacific Coalition of Cities Against Discrimination) has a rich history of promoting human rights and combating discrimination across the Asia-Pacific region. APCAD operates under the umbrella of ICCAR (International Coalition of Inclusive and Sustainable Cities), a global network of seven regional coalitions. APCAD serves as the Asia-Pacific regional branch of ICCAR. APCAD aims to foster collaboration among cities in the region to share best practices, develop effective strategies, and build inclusive urban environments free from discrimination. The APCAD meeting at the World Human Rights Cities Forum(WHRCF) 2025 presents a valuable opportunity to strengthen the coalition's efforts in promoting inclusive and sustainable cities across the Asia-Pacific region. By bringing together city representatives, civil society organizations, and young leaders, the meeting will contribute to building a future where all individuals can live with dignity and free from discrimination.
Objectives
First, provide a platform for member cities to discuss challenges and share successful initiatives related to promoting peace, inclusion, solidarity, and human rights in the face of conflict and violence.
Second, strengthening the network of APCAD cities and fostering collaboration on joint projects.
Third, showcase the work of APCAD within the broader context of WHRCF 2025. Fourth, contribute to the global dialogue on the role of cities in advancing human rights, as promoted by UNESCO and ICCAR.
Main Agenda
First, confirming the APCAD Statutes and Organizing the APCAD Steering Committee.
Second, introducing the ICCAR coalition and the APCAD Inclusive City Marker System.
Third, discussing the ways of promoting inter-city collaboration.
Fourth, strengthening the Inclusive City Network in the Asia Pacific Region under the umbrella of ICCAR and UCLG ASPAC.
