Restoration and Reconstruction of the Gwangju Women's History

In May 1980, women in Gwangju fell victim to the brutal suppression operations carried out by the martial law troops armed with batons and rifles with bayonets. At the same time, these women became active participants in the democratic uprising of people resisting such colossal violence in their own ways across various fronts of the struggle. They were involved throughout the entire process of the uprising, and even after it ended, they took the lead in efforts to release detainees, support bereaved families, and fight for the truth to be uncovered.

The restoration and reconstruction of Gwangju Women's History were made possible thanks to the awareness, commitment, and efforts of women. With the publication of this book, it is hoped that the restoration and reconstruction of Gwangju Women's History will become even more enriched and the interpretation surrounding Gwangju Women's History will also become more diverse.
