The Role of Human Rights Cities in Fighting Racism and Discrimination

Ted Terry

[Commissioner of DeKalb County Board of Commission]

Commissioner Terry was the former Mayor of the City of Clarkston, GA in DeKalb County. He was recently elected to the Super District 6 on the Board of Commissioners for DeKalb County, and has served in this role since January 2021 to the present. In addition to local public policy experience, he brought progressive perspectives to his new role as Commissioner. Diversity, Inclusion & Equity are at the heart of his work and his platforms. His platforms include Affordable Housing, Transit Equity, DeKalb Green New Deal (calling for public policy to address climate change, green jobs, and economic equity), DeKalb Voting Rights and Criminal Justice Reforms. In the area of Economic Equity, he discusses disparities in healthy food access, and the prevalence of food desserts in certain parts of the County. He states that these disparities result in healthcare issues for constituents, but also creates a stark view of poverty.
