The Human Rights Council (2022), stated that having a clean, healthy and sustainable environment is a human right. The UN General Assembly in 2021 stated climate change and environmental degradation were some of the most pressing threats to humanity's future. It called on states to step up efforts to ensure their people have access to a "clean, healthy and sustainable environment." Which compasses clean air, stable climate, adequate water, sanitation and hygiene, safe use of chemicals, protection from radiation, healthy and safe workplaces, sound agricultural practices, health-supportive cities and built environments, and a preserved nature are all prerequisites for good health.
These systems are organized within ecological niches that define the different roles of each actor. A sustainable community is a place where people work together to maintain resource availability and minimize ecological impacts, as well as providing opportunities for economic growth and empowerment through social equity. Thus, Pentahelix participation is key to achieving these goals.
