Human Rights Cities Against Authoritarianism and Populism

The Human Rights Paper Session brings together students, academics, and practitioners to examine the role of cities and local governments in addressing authoritarianism and populism while strengthening democratic institutions and civic participation. As democratic laboratories and frontline defenders, case studies of human rights cities demonstrate how local action can protect rights, counter exclusionary narratives, and build resilient, inclusive communities.
